In a coordinated effort aimed at combating terrorism and enhancing regional security, the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) joined forces with the Nigerien Air Force to conduct air interdiction strikes on terrorist hideouts in Damasak and Mobbar Local Government Areas (LGA) of Borno State.
This joint operation, conducted on April 23, 2024, signifies the ongoing collaboration between the Nigerian Armed Forces and international partners, particularly the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF).
A statement from the NAF spokesman, AVM Edward Gabkwet said the targeted strikes were in response to a thwarted terrorist attack on troops of Sector 4 of the MNJTF at Lada, a border town between Niger Republic and Nigeria. Following the failed assault, the terrorists fled across the border into Nigeria, prompting a swift and decisive response from the security forces.
Intelligence efforts successfully tracked the fleeing terrorists to two locations: Zarri village, approximately 28 km east of Damasak, and Mala Alide in Mobbar LGA of Borno State. In these areas, the terrorists were observed taking refuge, concealing their presence and equipment, including eight motorcycles, under the cover of trees.
Under the vigilant surveillance of Niger’s Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft, airstrikes were launched by the Air Component of OPHK and the Nigerien Air Force, targeting the identified terrorist hideouts. Real-time ISR footage later confirmed the successful elimination of numerous terrorists and the destruction of several structures within the targeted areas.
The collaborative efforts between the Nigerian and Nigerien forces have yielded positive outcomes, bolstering security on both sides of the border. By disrupting terrorist activities and dismantling their hideouts, these operations contribute significantly to the reduction of terrorism and other cross-border crimes. Such joint endeavors underscore the commitment of regional partners to combatting insecurity and fostering peace and stability in the region.
