Abuja, Nigeria – October 1, 2024 — The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has launched an investigation into reports of civilian casualties following a recent airstrike targeting a terrorist enclave in Giwa Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State.
According to a statement issued by Group Captain Kabiru Ali, Deputy Director of Public Relations for the NAF, the airstrike was carried out based on credible intelligence and surveillance, with the objective of neutralizing the activities of terrorists who have operated in the area for over two years. The operation is expected to significantly reduce banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes that have plagued Kaduna State and its surroundings.
Despite the operation’s success in targeting the terrorist stronghold, reports have emerged claiming civilian casualties as a result of the airstrike. The NAF, while emphasizing its commitment to minimizing collateral damage, assured the public that it is treating the allegations seriously. “Our focus is to always achieve the desired operational objective without collateral damage,” said the statement.
A thorough investigation is now underway to establish the facts of the incident. The NAF has pledged to keep the public informed of the findings as the inquiry progresses.
The airstrike is part of ongoing military efforts to combat terrorism and banditry in northern Nigeria, which has seen a surge in attacks on civilians and security forces in recent years.
The NAF’s investigation comes at a time when concerns about the safety of civilians in conflict zones are growing, with the military reiterating its commitment to safeguarding innocent lives while carrying out its operations.
