Defece Headquarters

Abuja, October 4, 2025 — The Defence Headquarters has confirmed the arrest of sixteen military officers over acts of indiscipline and violations of service regulations, with plans underway for their trial under the Armed Forces’ disciplinary framework.

In a statement signed by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, the military said the arrests followed a routine internal exercise aimed at upholding professionalism and accountability within the ranks.

Preliminary investigations, according to the statement, indicated that the affected officers’ actions were influenced by dissatisfaction arising from repeated failures in promotion examinations and perceived career stagnation.

It added that some of the officers were already facing trial or awaiting disciplinary proceedings before this latest development.

> “Upon completion of investigations, indicted officers will face the full military disciplinary process in accordance with established procedures to ensure accountability and preserve professionalism within the Armed Forces,” the statement said.

Brigadier General Gusau emphasized that the move was purely disciplinary and not politically motivated, describing it as part of routine efforts to maintain integrity, discipline, and loyalty across all formations of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

“The Armed Forces of Nigeria will not condone any behaviour that undermines its institutional values or threatens its constitutional role under democratic authority,” he added.

The Defence Headquarters reaffirmed its commitment to the rule of law, professionalism, and the continuous enforcement of ethical standards in the service, assuring Nigerians that the military remains focused on its constitutional responsibilities to defend the nation and its citizens.
