— Army Chief Waidi Shaibu joins CDS Oluyede, others in high-level strategy session
In a strong demonstration of unity and coordinated leadership, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on 10 November 2025, joined the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, and other Service Chiefs on a high-level visit to the Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, in Abuja.
The meeting underscored the Armed Forces’ collective resolve to strengthen national security through a unified command structure and enhanced operational coordination. It also provided a platform to brief the Minister on ongoing military operations across the country, including efforts in the North East, North West, and other theatres of internal security.
During the session, the Service Chiefs and the Minister deliberated on new strategies to deepen inter-service collaboration, improve intelligence sharing, and boost joint operational efficiency in addressing Nigeria’s evolving security challenges such as insurgency, terrorism, and banditry.
Dr. Matawalle commended the military leadership for its continued commitment to national stability, emphasizing President Bola Tinubu’s confidence in the Armed Forces’ ability to restore lasting peace across the nation. He assured the Service Chiefs of the Ministry’s sustained support in providing resources, logistics, and policy guidance necessary to enhance their operational effectiveness.
Analysts view the meeting as a reflection of the current Defence leadership’s emphasis on cohesive planning and unified command, which have been instrumental in achieving recent operational successes in several parts of the country.
The high-level engagement reaffirms the military’s readiness to sustain the momentum against all threats to Nigeria’s territorial integrity, peace, and security.
