President Bola Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council, removing the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by Yomi Odunuga, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
According to the statement, the decision was contained in a memo signed by the SGF, George Akume.
The memo announced the appointment of Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. It also named Muttaqha Darma as Minister-designate for Housing and Urban Development.
It directed the outgoing ministers to commence immediate handover processes to their successors or supervising officials, with all transition activities to be completed on or before the close of business on April 23, 2026.
Explaining the rationale behind the reshuffle, Akume said the changes were aimed at strengthening coordination and improving service delivery across key sectors of the economy in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians,” he stated.
He noted that the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in effecting the changes.
The SGF also conveyed the President’s appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their contributions to national development and wished them success in their future endeavours. He added that efforts to reinvigorate the cabinet would remain a continuous process.
Further details in the statement indicated that Oyedele was earlier appointed Minister of State for Finance in March 2026, while Edun had served in the cabinet since August 16, 2023.
