Nigerian Army troops attached to Operation FANSAN YAMMA said they have intensified efforts to dismantle terrorist enclaves in Zamfara State, carrying out series of coordinated clearance operations across multiple locations.
The operations, launched in the early hours of May 4, 2026, targeted identified hideouts in Maikwanuga village in Talata Mafara Local Government Area, as well as Aljumma, Gidan Dawa, Magami Didi, and Tungar Magaji villages in Maradun Local Government Area.
During the advance, troops engaged terrorists at Tungar Magaji, deploying superior firepower that led to the neutralisation of two insurgents, while others fled the scene.
A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle with a loaded magazine containing 30 rounds, as well as a motorcycle believed to have been used by the fleeing suspects.
Military authorities said the operations form part of an ongoing offensive aimed at dismantling terrorist strongholds within the Bagega–Sunke forest corridor and restoring lasting peace to affected communities.
They reaffirmed that Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains committed to protecting lives and property, adding that troops will sustain aggressive actions against criminal elements within the theatre of operations.
Residents were also urged to support security agencies with timely and credible information to aid ongoing efforts to combat insecurity in the region.
