Navy hands over 125 bags of smuggled rice to Customs in Lagos

The Nigerian Navy has transferred 125 bags of foreign parboiled rice intercepted during an anti-smuggling operation to the Nigeria Customs Service in Lagos State.
The items were handed over to officials of the Customs Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘A’ Ikeja, led by Chinedu Eboh, at Naval Base Epe on May 5, 2026.
The seizure followed an intelligence-led operation by personnel of Naval Base Epe, who intercepted a Peugeot J5 van conveying 125 bags of 50kg foreign rice suspected to have been smuggled into the state through illegal entry routes.
Naval authorities said the operation was carried out in the early hours of April 29, 2026, adding that the vehicle was stopped and searched based on credible human intelligence.
In accordance with established procedures, the Navy handed over the seized consignment to the Customs Service for further investigation and enforcement actions.
The exercise was conducted on behalf of the Commander, Naval Base Epe, Levi Deyin, represented by the Acting Executive Officer, Elvis Egbe.
Officials said the development reflects ongoing inter-agency collaboration aimed at curbing smuggling and safeguarding Nigeria’s economy.
The Nigerian Navy reiterated its commitment to sustaining operations against illegal activities across the maritime and coastal environment, in support of national security objectives.
