Army Chief commends troops, hosts soldiers to interfaith Iftar in Abuja

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has commended troops of the Nigerian Army for their bravery, resilience and unwavering dedication in the ongoing fight against terrorism, insurgency, banditry and other security threats across the country.

The Army Chief gave the commendation on Saturday, March 14, 2026, while hosting soldiers serving within Abuja to a combined interfaith breaking of fast at the TA Lagbaja Banquet Hall located within the Nigerian Army Conference Centre and Suites in Asokoro.

During the event, the COAS paid tribute to frontline troops deployed in various operational theatres, including the North-East, North-West and North-Central regions, praising their sacrifices and steadfast commitment to defending the nation.

He noted that soldiers serving in challenging environments across the country continue to demonstrate courage and professionalism in the face of evolving security threats.

Lieutenant General Shaibu also highlighted the spiritual significance of the coinciding sacred seasons of Ramadan and Lent, describing them as powerful reminders of sacrifice, patience, discipline and compassion.

According to him, these virtues align closely with the professional ethos of the Nigerian soldier, who is expected to demonstrate discipline, selflessness and commitment to national service at all times.

The Army Chief acknowledged that many personnel observing the holy periods continue to carry out their duties in demanding operational environments, often under difficult conditions.

He said such dedication reflects the patriotism and commitment of Nigerian soldiers who remain focused on their mission of protecting the nation despite personal sacrifices.

Speaking further, Lieutenant General Shaibu stressed the importance of leadership by example and sound administration as key pillars of his command philosophy.

He explained that his leadership approach places strong emphasis on the welfare of troops, the well-being of their families, and the overall morale and operational readiness of soldiers.

According to him, ensuring the welfare of troops remains critical to maintaining a motivated and professional fighting force capable of effectively addressing the country’s security challenges.

The Army Chief therefore urged soldiers to continue to uphold the strong bonds of comradeship and the warrior ethos that define the Nigerian Army as a disciplined and professional military institution.

He encouraged troops to support one another, remain resolute in the face of prevailing security challenges and stay committed to the core values of service, courage and integrity.

Lieutenant General Shaibu also called on soldiers to always remember and pray for fallen heroes of the Nigerian Army who paid the ultimate price in defence of the nation.

He said the sacrifices of these personnel should serve as a constant reminder of the responsibility borne by those still serving to protect the country and uphold its sovereignty.

The interfaith breaking of fast event brought together Muslim and Christian soldiers in an atmosphere of unity, reflection and camaraderie, reinforcing the Nigerian Army’s tradition of religious tolerance and mutual respect among its personnel.

The gathering also provided an opportunity for the Army leadership to interact with troops, encourage them and strengthen the spirit of unity and solidarity within the force as it continues to confront security challenges across the country.
