The Nigerian Army said at the weekend that it will confront all threats against the country headlong with the intention of defeating them.
The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, gave the assurance in Lagos while commissioning of projects within Army Formations, urging troops of the force not to rest relent as victory is yet to be achieved.
According to the General Lagbaja, “The troops are rearing to go, and I want to pledge the determination and the readiness of the officers and men of the Nigerian Army, to combat not only the current security challenges that confront our country, but also the future challenges that may confront us.
“The Challenges across every zone of the country will be taken headlong and we surely over come with the support of every other stakeholders in the country.
“The officers and men should not rest on the oars, we are not yet there, the threat is complex, the threat is adaptive and we have to do more than we are currently doing to completely eradicate and defeat the threat.”
General Lagbaja said he wants to transform the Nigerian Army into a well trained equipped and highly motivated force, towards achieving its constitutional role in a joint environment, this mission statement, he added, will be built on three pillars of operational effectiveness, leadership and sound administration.
He said that the projects that he had commissioned in Lagos fits into the sound administration aspect of his command philosophy, especially as it will go a long way to provide essential welfare support in terms of infrastructure and others needs troops of the Nigerian Army, their families and the barrack community.
Earlier, General Lagbaja had commissioned some projects at the Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps (NAOC)., Nigerian Army Engineering Corps, and the 81 Division .
Lagbaja commissioned the Nigerian Army (NA) Ordinance School Officers accommodation, the NA Cantonment Jetty, Epe and the Papa Primary Healthcare Centre, Epe as part of the army’s civil-military cooperation to the community.
He also commissioned block of accommodation at the Nigerian Army Engineering Corps and the Hippo Hall of Fame and the Headquarters of the 81 Division.
He commended the GOC 81 Division for the establishment of the Hippo Hall of Fame which will store the records of things that had happened in the Division.
