The Chief of Administration (COA) of the Nigerian Navy, Rear Admiral GSM Aligwe, has embarked on a familiarisation tour of naval establishments under the Western Naval Command.
The tour includes visits to Nigerian Navy secondary schools, medical facilities, and detention centres within the command’s area of responsibility.
The objective of the tour is to enable the COA to assess the operational status of these units, identify areas requiring intervention, and enhance overall management efficiency.
Visit to Western Naval Command Headquarters
Rear Admiral Aligwe commenced his tour at the Western Naval Command Headquarters in Apapa, Lagos, where he was received by the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral MG Oamen.
During their meeting, the COA emphasized the importance of quality service delivery in the Nigerian Navy’s hospitals, schools, and detention facilities. He noted that his visit aimed to conduct on-the-spot assessments and provide the Naval Headquarters with firsthand insights into operational challenges and areas for policy improvement.
In his response, Rear Admiral Oamen commended the COA’s role in managing the Nigerian Navy’s human and material resources, stressing that the visit aligns with the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla’s strategic directives.
Inspection of Key Naval Institutions
As part of the tour, the COA and his team inspected various Nigerian Navy institutions, including:
Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital, Ojo
Obisesan Naval Medical Centre, Apapa
Naval Medical Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos
Nigerian Navy Secondary School (NNSS), Ojo
Nigerian Navy Secondary Schools in Abeokuta and Ogbomosho
Nigerian Navy College of Health Sciences, Offa
Nigerian Navy Centre of Education and Training Technology, Ile-Ife
The familiarisation tour is expected to enhance operational efficiency, improve infrastructure, and strengthen the welfare of naval personnel and their families across the Western Naval Command.
