Jos, July 30, 2025 – The Chief of Defence Operations (CDOPs), Major General EV Onumajuru, on Tuesday visited the headquarters of Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) in Jos, Plateau State, as part of efforts to assess ongoing military operations and gain firsthand insight into the security situation in the Joint Operations Area (JOA).
Receiving the CDOPs at the OPSH Headquarters, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division, Nigerian Army, and Commander of Operation SAFE HAVEN, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, described the visit as a boost to the Command’s morale and strategic planning. He highlighted the major security triggers in the region, noting that sustained efforts to tackle the issues must be anchored on community engagement and a well-structured community-based network that supports security agencies.
In his address, Major General Onumajuru praised the dedication and professionalism of troops operating under OPSH in what he described as a complex and dynamic operational environment. He stressed the need for troops to intensify efforts, maintain an aggressive posture against armed elements, and sustain momentum in their operations.
“Civil-military relations remain the cornerstone of internal security strategy,” the CDOPs said, urging security forces to dominate known movement corridors of criminal elements and to deepen inter-agency collaboration to enhance intelligence gathering and operational effectiveness.
He further reaffirmed the commitment of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, to provide additional combat enablers and logistics support to enhance the performance of troops across the JOA.
Following the operational briefing at the OPSH Headquarters, Major General Onumajuru was led on an operational tour of Sector 8, Mangu Area of Responsibility, by the GOC and Commander OPSH. He was received by the Sector Commander, Colonel SO Fagbemi, who also provided updates on the security operations and activities within the sector.
The visit featured key activities including an operations briefing, interactive session with troops, signing of the visitors’ book, a group photograph, and a field tour of operational sectors under OPSH.
Operation SAFE HAVEN is a multi-agency task force deployed in Plateau, parts of Kaduna, and Bauchi States, tasked with addressing communal clashes, banditry, and other security challenges in the region.
