CNS reaffirms stakeholder synergy in securing Nigeria’s maritime domain

Abuja, Nigeria – The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has reiterated the importance of sustained collaboration with stakeholders in safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime environment.

He made this known while receiving the Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director of New Guard Security & Consultancy Services Limited, Major General Jamil Sarham (Rtd), during a courtesy visit to Naval Headquarters in Abuja.

During the meeting, Sarham outlined the company’s role as a coordinating interface between government security agencies and Private Security Companies (PSCs), aimed at standardising operations, strengthening regulatory compliance, and fostering synergy within the security architecture.

He revealed that the firm has established a Project Management Office and commenced full operations, adding that its engagements have significantly reduced operational friction between PSCs and the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

Sarham also commended the Nigerian Navy for its professionalism and sustained crackdown on crude oil theft, noting that such efforts have contributed to increased oil production and enhanced national economic stability.

In his response, Vice Admiral Abbas welcomed the initiative, emphasising that institutionalised collaboration remains vital in addressing evolving maritime security challenges.

He noted that previous areas of friction between the Navy and private security operators have been largely minimised and assured the firm of continued support in strengthening coordinated mechanisms to protect critical national assets.

The CNS reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to sustaining partnerships that enhance maritime security and ensure the safety of Nigeria’s economic lifelines.
