Abuja, Nigeria – The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has lauded the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) for its exceptional role in supporting military families and maintaining stability on the home front.

He urged the association’s leadership to build on its existing legacy of unity and inclusiveness.

Lt. Gen. Oluyede made the remarks on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, while hosting NAOWA President Mrs. Mernan Oluyede and the association’s executive members at the Army Headquarters Conference Room in Abuja.

During the meeting, the COAS praised NAOWA for fostering unity and promoting charity within the Nigerian Army community and beyond. He also commended the association’s solidarity with Mrs. Mariya Lagbaja following the passing of the late COAS, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, emphasizing the importance of strengthening bonds among its members.

“I appreciate NAOWA’s steadfast commitment to supporting military families and fostering unity within our community. Rest assured, the Nigerian Army will continue to support your organizational goals and humanitarian agenda,” Lt. Gen. Oluyede said.

In her address, Mrs. Mernan Oluyede congratulated the COAS on his appointment as the 24th Chief of Army Staff and expressed gratitude for the Army’s consistent support of NAOWA’s initiatives. She outlined her vision for the association, focusing on uniting members and building on the achievements of her predecessors.

Mrs. Oluyede unveiled her mission statement: “Enhancing humanity through a steadfast commitment to unity, service, and preservation of enduring legacies.” She highlighted NAOWA’s dedication to improving members’ quality of life, fostering community growth, and empowering future generations.

The NAOWA President also sought continued support from the Nigerian Army to help the association achieve its objectives. She reaffirmed NAOWA’s commitment to advancing humanitarian initiatives and prayed for sustained peace and security across the nation.

The courtesy visit reinforced the strong partnership between the Nigerian Army and NAOWA, underscoring their shared commitment to supporting military personnel and their families.
