The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division Maj.-Gen. Ibikunle Ajose,, has charged operational commanders to uphold strategic leadership and foster teamwork at all times.
Ajose, who also serves as the Commander of Sector 2, Operation Fasan Yamma, gave the charge while declaring closed a five-day Operations Planning Cadre on Friday in Sokoto.
Ajose was represented by Chief of Staff, 8 Division Headquarters, Brig.-Gen. Abubakar Suru.
Ajose urged participants to apply the knowledge gained in implementing strategic leadership skills and professionalism within their respective formations.
He expressed optimism that the training had equipped them with the necessary tools for operational planning and problem-solving, emphasising their critical role in shaping the outcomes of security operations.
” Our ability to effectively counter evolving threats depends on leadership, decision-making and coordinated skills on those on the frontline.
” Inter-agency cooperation, teamwork are very essential in the conduct of military operations, improving the leadership skills to enable them to perform optimally, ” he said.
The GOC stated that the training and shared experiences had equipped the officers with the necessary expertise to lead effectively and align strategic requirements with security imperatives.
According to him, these efforts are in line with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS)’s vision to develop a cadre of officers with enhanced knowledge, skills, and professionalism in handling security challenges.
He advised the officers to conduct periodic reviews of operations and encourage individuals, including junior cadres, to share their experiences.
This, he said, would help refine strategies and pave the way for future successes.
He added that the security challenges facing the country required specific and tactical approaches at all levels.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme of the exercise was “Authentic Leadership at All Levels of Command: A Prerequisite for Enhanced Operations.” It featured lectures on various topics.
Participants were drawn from the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Federal Road Safety Corps, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
Others included personnel from the Nigerian Immigration Service, Nigerian Correctional Service, and Nigerian Customs Service.(NAN)
