Ilorin, March 28, 2025(NAN)The International Aviation College, Ilorin, on Friday graduated 19 pilots, including 10 enrollees from the Nigerian Army, following six months of intensive training.Speaking at the ceremony, Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State underscored the importance of discipline, perseverance, and teamwork in achieving success.
AbdulRazaq was represented by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Saadatu Modibbo-Kawu.

The governor commended the graduates for their hard work and commitment.

“You are not just leaving here with certificates but with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to contribute meaningfully to society.

“It has been six months of rigorous training, and the perseverance, discipline, and teamwork you have learnt must be sustained for success,” AbdulRazaq stated.

He also lauded the partnership between the college and the Nigerian Army, affirming the government’s commitment to supporting aviation education.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, was represented by Brig. Gen. Ezra Barkins, Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade Nigerian Army Sobi.

Oluyede highlighted the significance of the training in operationalising Nigerian Army Aviation.

“This training will reshape our battle space, enhancing the Nigerian Army’s operational effectiveness.

“As you graduate today, embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, and uphold the core values of the Nigerian Army,” he advised.

Capt. Yakubu Okahtai, Rector of the College, explained that the Private Pilot Licecse (PPL) training served as a foundation for advanced aviation roles.

He said the training would enable the graduates to contribute to air mobility and reconnaissance.

“This training instills discipline, precision, and responsibility—qualities essential for military aviation.

“Today marks the beginning of a new chapter for these officers who have chosen to serve their nation in the skies,” Okahtai said.

He acknowledged the Kwara State Government for its role in the success of the training programme, emphasising the importance of synergy between military institutions and civil authorities.

Since the current management took office in March 2022, the college has graduated 62 students.

Speaking on behalf of the graduating pilots, Lt. Smart Aghogho expressed gratitude to the college’s management and instructors for their expertise and support, as well as to the Nigerian Army for providing the training opportunity.

“We have overcome countless challenges, from sleepless nights of studying and weekend classes to intense flight training, NCAA examinations, and cross-country navigation,” Aghogho said.

A notable graduate of the day was Musa Damilola, who gained recognition three years ago for building mini planes and drones, which he later presented at the Kwara Government House.

Damilola expressed heartfelt appreciation to Gov. AbdulRazaq for sponsoring his aviation education, which enabled him to complete his PPL and pursue a Commercial Pilot License (CPL).

“Since childhood, I dreamed of becoming a pilot but had no financial support.

“I started by building small aircraft. Fortunately, I met with a former special assistant to the governor, Cute Abiola, who introduced me to His Excellency.

“The governor sponsored my training, and today, I am achieving my dream,” he said(NAN)
