President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved major changes in the hierarchy of the Nigerian Armed Forces, appointing new Service Chiefs in what the Presidency described as part of efforts to strengthen the nation’s security architecture.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Mr. Sunday Dare, titled “Tinubu Changes Service Chiefs.”
According to the statement, General Olufemi Oluyede has been appointed the new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), replacing General Christopher Musa.
The President also approved the appointment of Major-General W. Shaibu as the Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as the Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as the Chief of Naval Staff.
Meanwhile, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye retains his position as the Chief of Defence Intelligence.
Mr. Dare noted that the changes reflect President Tinubu’s commitment to reinvigorating Nigeria’s security leadership and ensuring a more proactive approach to addressing emerging threats.
“The President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, expresses his profound appreciation to the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and the other Service Chiefs for their patriotic service and dedicated leadership,” the statement read in part.
President Tinubu charged the newly appointed Service Chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them by demonstrating professionalism, vigilance, and unity in their service to the nation.
“The President expects the new Service Chiefs to further enhance the professionalism, vigilance, and comradeship that define Nigeria’s Armed Forces,” Dare stated.
All appointments take immediate effect.
