Asaba, June 5, 2024 — Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), has underscored the necessity of joint efforts to eliminate criminal elements in Delta State and its surroundings.
During a meeting with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori at the Government House in Asaba, Air Marshal Abubakar emphasized the importance of effective civil-military cooperation, advocating for all stakeholders to work together for the socio-economic benefit of the region.
Air Marshal Abubakar highlighted that a peaceful environment is essential for meaningful development, warning that without it, the livelihoods of ordinary citizens would be adversely affected. He called on the residents of Delta State to continue supporting security agents in their efforts to purge the state of criminal elements.
Expressing gratitude to Governor Oborevwori, Air Marshal Abubakar commended the Governor’s unwavering support for the Armed Forces and the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in particular. “The priority Your Excellency has given to security in Delta State, especially in the past 12 months, has created a more conducive environment for sustained socio-economic growth and development,” he said.
Air Marshal Abubakar also thanked the Governor for the allocation of a 66.6-hectare expanse of land at Osubi, along with its Certificate of Occupancy, for the development of a full-fledged NAF Base. He described this as a landmark event in the history of Delta State and NAF relations.
In response, Governor Oborevwori praised the CAS for the NAF’s dedication to combating insecurity across the nation. He noted that Air Marshal Abubakar’s visit underscored the strong partnership between Delta State and the NAF. The Governor assured the CAS that his administration would soon begin constructing the road leading to the new NAF Base, demonstrating his commitment to the project’s realization. Additionally, the Governor pledged to allocate another parcel of land for the construction of a Post-Service Housing Scheme for retiring NAF personnel.
Governor Oborevwori also took the opportunity to condemn the tragic incident in March 2024 that resulted in the loss of lives of several Nigerian Army personnel at Okuama Village.
The highlight of the visit was the presentation of the Certificate of Occupancy for the 66.6-hectare land at Osubi from Governor Oborevwori to Air Marshal Abubakar.
