Ibaka, Nigeria (May 18, 2024) – A significant smuggling of petroleum product was disrupted by Nigerian operatives attached to Operation Delta Sanity stationed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Ibaka.
A wooden boat carrying drums of illegally refined Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) was intercepted en route to the Republic of Cameroon.
The illegal fuel was cleverly concealed among building materials and household items in an attempt to avoid detection. However, vigilant security personnel uncovered the contraband during a routine inspection. The interception took place off the coast of Akwa Ibom State, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat illegal fuel trafficking in the region.
Two suspects were apprehended during the operation. They are currently being detained and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities in Akwa Ibom State for further investigation and prosecution.
“This successful interception underscores our commitment to eradicating illegal fuel smuggling and protecting our nation’s resources,” stated a spokesperson for the Nigerian Navy. “We remain vigilant and will continue to take decisive action against such illicit activities.”
The apprehended individuals and the seized contraband will be transferred to the relevant agencies for further legal proceedings.
