Calabar, Nigeria — The Commandant of the Naval War College Nigeria (NWCN), Rear Admiral A. Ahmed, recently hosted the Director General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mallam Jibrin Baba Ndace, who delivered a lecture titled “Strengthening Military-Civil Collaboration: A Strategic Imperative for the Nigerian Navy.”

The lecture highlighted the vital role of mass media in the strategic dissemination of information and its importance in shaping public perception and supporting military objectives.

Addressing participants of the Naval Warfare Course 8, including members of the faculty and administrative staff, Ndace underscored the essential partnership between the military and the media. He emphasized that, in today’s interconnected world, media plays a critical role in ensuring transparency and fostering trust between the military and the public. According to the DG, building strong relationships with civil society and the media is key to promoting accurate information and countering misinformation, which can significantly enhance public confidence in the Nigerian Navy (NN).

Ndace also shared case studies from international military organizations, illustrating how effective media collaboration can benefit military operations. He pointed out that the Nigerian Navy has made considerable progress in engaging with the media in recent years, further reinforcing the need for a proactive media strategy to support its objectives.

The lecture was well received, with participants acknowledging the importance of media in modern military operations. Rear Admiral Ahmed expressed his commitment to implementing the recommendations, affirming that the Nigerian Navy will continue to strengthen its ties with the media as part of its broader strategy to enhance national security.
