Navy, SIFAX to strengthen maritime security partnership

The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Abdullahi Abubakar Mustapha has reiterated the Nigerian Navy resolve to safeguard Nigeria’s territorial waters, ensuring safe navigation, and protecting critical national infrastructure that supports economic growth.

Admiral Mustapha spoke during a courtesy visit to the Chairman of SIFAX Group, Dr Taiwo Afolabi, as part of the command’s efforts to strengthen civil-military collaboration and enhance strategic partnership within Nigeria’s maritime domain.

The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) underscored the importance of inter-agency cooperation and public-private partnerships in sustaining maritime security within the Command’s Area of Responsibility.

According to the FOC, the evolving security landscape in the maritime environment requires strong synergy between the military and key industry players, particularly those involved in port operations, offshore installations and maritime trade corridors.

He noted that effective collaboration with corporate leaders and stakeholders would help address emerging threats and reinforce operational efficiency across Nigeria’s coastal and inland waterways.

“The security of our maritime domain is a shared responsibility. Strengthening collaboration with reputable organisations enhances our ability to respond proactively to security challenges and sustain confidence in the maritime sector,” he said.

Responding on behalf of the Chairman, the Group Coordinating Director of SIFAX Group, Mrs Wummi Eniola Jegede, expressed appreciation for the visit and commended the Western Naval Command for its commitment to securing the nation’s maritime space.

She reaffirmed the organisation’s readiness to sustain cooperation with the Nigerian Navy in areas of mutual interest, particularly initiatives that promote safety, operational efficiency and national development.

The visit reflects continued efforts by the Nigerian Navy to deepen engagement with private sector stakeholders as part of a broader strategy to maintain a secure and stable maritime environment conducive to trade and investment.
