Police, Navy Strengthen Collaboration on Coastal Security in Lagos

The evolving nature of security threats, particularly in coastal and littoral environments, has underscored the need for sustained cooperation among security agencies, the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Headquarters, AIG Olohundare Jimoh Moshood, has said.

Moshood made this known on Friday during a courtesy visit to the Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Abdullahi Abubakar Mustapha, at the Command’s headquarters in Apapa, Lagos.

He stressed that effective policing and maritime security require intelligence sharing, joint operations and mutual support to ensure the safety of lives and property.

The AIG also called for closer collaboration in tackling crimes such as cultism, illegal drug trafficking, land grabbing and other organised criminal activities, while commending the Western Naval Command for its efforts in safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime domain.

Responding, the Flag Officer Commanding, Rear Admiral Mustapha, described the visit as timely and strategic, congratulating Moshood on his recent appointment and attributing it to his professionalism and experience in policing.

He formally welcomed the AIG to the command on behalf of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, and reiterated the importance of inter-agency cooperation in addressing contemporary security challenges.

Mustapha noted that Nigeria’s recent removal from the list of piracy-prone nations was a result of sustained efforts by the Nigerian Navy and other maritime security agencies.

He assured the police boss of the command’s readiness to deepen collaboration through intelligence sharing, joint patrols and coordinated operations, particularly across Lagos and Ogun states under Zone 2.

The naval chief further reaffirmed the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to maintaining a secure maritime environment to support economic activities, noting that enhanced collaboration remains key to achieving this objective.

The visit featured discussions on areas of mutual interest and the exchange of souvenirs, symbolising the partnership between both organisations.

It was part of efforts to strengthen inter-agency collaboration and enhance synergy between the Zone 2 Command of the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Navy in addressing security challenges and promoting peace and stability in the region.
