The Chief of Army Staff (COAS),Lieutenant General  Waidi Shaibu, has called on troops of the 4 Special Forces Command to sustain aggressive, intelligence-led operations against terrorists and insurgents threatening national security.

Speaking during his maiden operational visit to the Command in Doma, Nasarawa State, on March 3, 2026, the Army Chief emphasised that the Nigerian Army’s Special Forces remain central to ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks across the country.

Addressing officers and soldiers at the 4 Special Forces Command and the Nigerian Army Special Forces School, Lieutenant General Shaibu stressed the need for precision-driven operations anchored on credible intelligence.

He noted that the contemporary security environment demands rapid response, adaptability and tactical superiority, urging troops to dominate the battlespace through speed, surprise and sustained operational momentum.

“The era of waiting to react is over,” he declared, reaffirming his commitment to proactive engagements. He warned that terrorist elements and violent criminals would no longer find safe havens within Nigeria’s borders.

During the visit, the COAS received operational briefings from the Commander of the 4 Special Forces Command, Major General Olurotimi Azubuike Awolo, and the Commandant of the Special Forces School, Brigadier General Umar Faruk Abubakar.

Expressing satisfaction with the Command’s training standards and operational posture, Shaibu approved the construction of additional accommodation and essential facilities to boost both training efficiency and troop welfare.

He reiterated that the welfare of personnel and their families remains a priority, adding that sustained investment in logistics, modern equipment and professional development would ensure the Special Forces retain their edge over adversaries.

In a demonstration of commitment to sustainable development within military formations, the COAS and senior officers concluded the visit with a tree-planting exercise inside the cantonment.
