Jos: Tinubu consoles grieving mother, promises support for victims of attack

President Bola Tinubu on Thursday consoled a grieving mother whose anguish was captured in a viral video following a deadly attack in Jos, Plateau State.

During a condolence visit to the state, the President addressed the woman directly, referencing footage that showed her clutching the lifeless body of her son, identified as Ayuba, after the violence in the Angwan Rukuba area.

“I know the pain; I saw how, in the video, you held on to your son, Ayuba, and the pain and agony in your heart, but it’s only God who can give you joy and comfort,” Tinubu said while speaking to victims’ families and community representatives.

He acknowledged the depth of the loss, noting that no compensation could fully make up for lives lost, but assured affected families of government support.

“No amount of money can pay all of you back. As a government, we will do our best to comfort you,” he added.

President Tinubu had earlier arrived in Jos following Sunday’s attack in Angwan Rukuba, which left at least 27 people dead. He was received at the airport by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda, and the Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, alongside other senior government officials.

Earlier in the week, the President condemned the Jos killings as well as a separate attack in Kahir village, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where wedding guests were reportedly killed and abducted.

Speaking through his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the incidents as “barbaric and cowardly,” vowing that those responsible would be brought to justice.

He also cautioned against attributing the attacks to religious motives, warning that such narratives could further inflame tensions in affected communities.
