Intensified security operations by the Nigerian Navy have led to the rescue of a kidnapped victim, Mr. Benedict Eze, in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The victim, who was abducted on March 23, 2026, at Aganya Community, regained freedom after his captors abandoned him at Coconut Jetty near Opuoma waterside. This followed sustained pressure from personnel of Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bonny, who launched coordinated search efforts immediately after the incident was reported.
A statement from the Naval Spokesman, Captain Abiodun Folorunsho said that the rescue was made possible through intelligence-driven patrols, deployment of surveillance assets, and joint land and maritime operations aimed at cutting off escape routes within the creeks and waterways.
Mr. Eze was subsequently taken to a Naval medical facility for assessment and debriefing before being safely reunited with his family.
The Nigerian Navy said the operation highlights the growing effectiveness of its collaboration with other security agencies in curbing criminal activities within the Bonny–Port Harcourt axis. It added that the mission aligns with the directive of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, to intensify the crackdown on criminal elements operating within the nation’s maritime environment.
Reaffirming its commitment, the Navy assured that it will continue to sustain proactive patrols and intelligence-led operations to enhance security, protect lives and property, and ensure that perpetrators of criminal acts are brought to justice.
