Bauchi community residents return as military operations dislodge terrorists

Residents of Mansur in Alkeleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State have begun returning to their homes following the successful dislodgement of terrorists by Nigerian Army troops.

The return, which occurred on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, signaled a major relief for the community which had been abandoned since late February after an ആക്രമ by armed insurgents forced residents to flee.

The development followed coordinated military operations under Operation BUGUN KARKANDA III, supported by Operation WUTAN DAJI, aimed at rooting out terrorist elements from forest enclaves across Bauchi and neighbouring states.

Troops of the 33 Artillery Brigade spearheaded the offensive, targeting known hideouts including the Yankari Game Reserve and other forested areas previously used as operational bases by the terrorists.

Military authorities confirmed that several communities, including Mansur, were successfully cleared, enabling displaced residents to return under improved security conditions.

Eyewitnesses described emotional scenes as families reunited and cautiously resumed daily activities. Residents were seen clearing debris, inspecting damaged properties, and gradually restoring normal life in the area.

The Nigerian Army said the operation has now entered a consolidation phase, involving collaboration with other security agencies and government bodies to ensure sustained peace and stability in the affected communities.

Community leaders commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for the intervention, noting that the return of residents reflects renewed confidence in the security architecture.

They also called for continued military presence and government support to rebuild infrastructure and livelihoods disrupted during the period of displacement.

Residents expressed optimism that the restoration of peace would allow farming and other economic activities to resume, helping the community recover from the impact of the attacks.
