The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships with global institutions, including King’s College London, to enhance national security.
Shaibu stated this on Wednesday while receiving a delegation led by Randolph Charles Kent at the Army Headquarters in Abuja.
He described the six-year collaboration as a strategic platform for building intellectual capacity, leadership development and operational effectiveness within the Army.

According to him, the partnership—facilitated through the Nigerian Army Resource Centre—has expanded access to world-class military education and supports efforts to build a professional, adaptive and combat-ready force.
The COAS noted that evolving security challenges require innovative, forward-looking strategies anchored on collaboration and knowledge-sharing.
He highlighted the role of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre as a key think tank in generating policy-relevant ideas and promoting inter-agency cooperation to tackle emerging threats.

Shaibu also drew attention to the growing impact of the digital information environment on national security, warning of the risks posed by information warfare and malign influence operations.
He called for deeper academic collaboration to address vulnerabilities associated with limited control over the global information space through research-driven solutions.
In his remarks, Kent commended the Nigerian Army for sustaining the partnership, noting that the Yale-NARC African Leadership Centre programme thrives on shared knowledge and expertise.

He added that such collaborations are essential for navigating global uncertainties and strengthening collective capacity to respond to complex security challenges.
