How RMAC Boosts Nigerian Navy Operations -FOC West

The Regional Maritime Awareness Capability supports the operations of the Nigerian Navy in tackling sea robbery, piracy, crude oil theft, and other illicit maritime activities, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Abubakar Mustapha, has said.
Rear Admiral Mustapha made this known while receiving a United States Congressional Delegation (CODEL) led by Adam Barker at the Command Headquarters in Lagos.
He explained that the RMAC has significantly enhanced maritime domain awareness through real-time monitoring, intelligence sharing, and coordinated responses to threats within Nigeria’s territorial waters and the wider Gulf of Guinea.

According to him, the system has strengthened surveillance and operational efficiency, contributing to safer maritime trade routes and improved security across the region.
The FOC emphasised that sustained success in maritime security operations depends largely on international collaboration, noting that partnerships with allies such as the United States have been instrumental in providing technical support, capacity building, and intelligence exchange.
He added that the visit by the U.S. delegation offered an opportunity to further deepen bilateral cooperation and assess ongoing joint efforts in maritime security.
During the visit, the delegation was conducted round the RMAC Complex, where they received a comprehensive briefing on its operations and impact on Nigeria’s maritime security architecture.
In his remarks, Barker commended the Nigerian Navy for its proactive approach to safeguarding the maritime domain and reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to continued collaboration with Nigeria in enhancing regional security.
The visit also featured an interactive session where both sides discussed emerging maritime threats and explored avenues for strengthening cooperation.
