The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to defending the nation and protecting its citizens, declaring that the Force remains “alert, ready, and determined” to confront all threats.

Abubakar made the remarks during an operational visit to frontline troops in Katsina as part of activities marking the 61st anniversary of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Director of Public Relations and Information, NAF, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the CAS urged officers and men to maintain high levels of vigilance and intensify efforts to restore lasting peace and security across the country.

He charged personnel not to lose sight of the Force’s ultimate goal—defending Nigeria and safeguarding its people.

“Nigerians can be rest assured that we remain fully committed to our constitutional mandate. We will continue to give our very best in defence of our nation,” Abubakar said.

While acknowledging the progress made in various theatres of operation, the Air Chief stressed that the fight against terrorism and insecurity is far from over.

“Yes, we have achieved commendable milestones, but this is not the time to slow down. We must not rest on our oars,” he said.

“Now is the time to consolidate and intensify our air strikes against terrorists, insurgents, and bandits. Even as we mark 61 years of dedicated service, we must give our fellow countrymen more reasons to hope—more victories that reassure them that their Air Force remains alert, ready, and determined to defeat all enemies of peace.”

Abubakar noted that the 61st anniversary celebrations, including public airpower demonstrations, were not only symbolic but also a reflection of the NAF’s preparedness and proficiency.

During his visit, the CAS also inspected facilities, interacted with troops, and assessed the condition of deployed platforms, underlining his administration’s focus on frontline engagement, operational effectiveness, and improved troop welfare.

The Nigerian Air Force was established in 1964 and has since become a key pillar in Nigeria’s defence architecture, contributing significantly to internal security and regional stability.
