Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has commended the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) for providing critical aerial surveillance support in ongoing efforts to rescue teachers and pupils abducted from Yawota and Ahoro-Esinele communities in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
The governor disclosed this during a courtesy visit by the Air Officer Commanding Logistics Command, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Suleh, who represented the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke.
Makinde said the Air Force acted swiftly following reports of the abduction by deploying an aerial surveillance platform to assist security agencies involved in the search-and-rescue mission.
According to him, intelligence gathered through the aerial operations has continued to provide valuable support for ongoing efforts to track the abductors and secure the release of the victims.
He assured residents that the state government, in collaboration with security agencies, remains fully committed to ensuring the safe return of the abducted teachers and pupils.
The governor appealed to residents to remain calm and support ongoing security operations, noting that every available resource is being deployed to resolve the situation.
Makinde specifically praised the Chief of the Air Staff and the Nigerian Air Force for their timely intervention, describing the support as crucial at a time when the state’s newly acquired aerial platforms are yet to become operational.
He explained that the aircraft purchased by the Oyo State Government are currently being assembled at the Nigerian Air Force Base in Lagos and are expected to strengthen security operations across Oyo and neighbouring states once deployed.
The governor noted that the acquisition of the aerial assets followed extensive consultations with the Nigerian Air Force to guarantee access to technical support, maintenance facilities, engineering expertise, and pilot training.
He expressed confidence that the partnership between the state government and the Air Force would significantly enhance the state’s security architecture.
Speaking on behalf of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Suleh reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to supporting efforts aimed at securing the safe release of the victims.
He conveyed the solidarity of the Air Force with the government and people of Oyo State and assured that the Service would continue to provide the necessary operational support required to address the situation.
Suleh also commended the Oyo State Government for its sustained support for Nigerian Air Force projects and infrastructure development within the state.
The Air Officer Commanding emphasized that the Nigerian Air Force remains committed to working closely with other security agencies and stakeholders to tackle security challenges and protect lives and property across the country.
The ongoing aerial surveillance mission highlights the increasing role of airpower and intelligence-driven operations in supporting internal security efforts and combating criminal activities in various parts of Nigeria.
