IMION congratulates the Nigerian Navy @70

1. On this historic occasion of the 70th Anniversary of the Nigerian Navy (NN), write to extend my warmest congratulations and profound respect to the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral I Abbas (Admiralty Medal), gallant officers and ratings as well as civilian staff on behalf of the Governing Board, Management and Staff of the International Maritime Institute of Nigeria (IMION).

Through unwavering courage, professionalism, and tactical brilliance exemplified in numerous operations, exercises.

joint engagements, diplomatic interactions and operational excellence; the NN has successfully secured Nigeria’s maritime domain, protected critical hydrocarbon assets, and significantly suppressed piracy and illicit activities within the Gulf of Guinea (GoG). It is therefore noteworthy that the NN has for 7 remarkable decades, stood as a formidable bastion of national maritime security, economic resilience and regional stability, thereby contributing significantly not only to the national development of
Nigeria but also to security in the entire swathe of the GoG.
2. The laudable laurels of the NN also encompass the other notable strides such as pioneering initiative to establish IMION in 2024 as the premier think-tank for strategic maritime research and policy advocacy in the GoG. Notably therefore, IMION deeply values the strategic support and synergy with the NN in its quest for strategic maritime excellence which invariably typifies the Navy’s commitment to capacity building particularly in the highly specialised areas of ocean governance, maritime security, blue
economy prosperity and sovereignity of Nigeria. Thus, IMION will continue to provide the requisite enabling environment to unlock the immense potential of Nigeria’s Blue Economy for enhanced national development.
3. The Institute is highly delighted to celebrate the monumental sacrifices, resilience, and operational progress that have defined the NN’s legacy of resilience under successive leaderships of the Service. On this note, I congratulate the the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral I Abbas on the landmark milestone of the Diamond Jubilee of the NN. I hereby reaffirm IMION’s resolute commitment to supporting the mandate of the NN under the transformative leadership of the Chief of the Naval Staff
through cutting-edge research, policy discourse, and executive maritime training among
other endeavours.
4. I wish the NN a spectacular 70th Anniversary celebration, continued operational successes, fair winds and following seas. Onward Together.
