IMION Targets Stronger Maritime Leadership With Executive Blue Economy Training

The International Maritime Institute of Nigeria (IMION) has commenced registration for a three-day Executive Training Programme designed to strengthen leadership capacity and deepen understanding of Nigeria’s emerging blue economy.

The specialised programme is targeted at senior professionals and stakeholders across the maritime and logistics sectors, with emphasis on sustainable blue economy development, port operations, logistics and trade facilitation.

According to information on the programme, the training is expected to bring together maritime and port executives, government officials and policymakers, officers of the Nigeria Customs Service, state government representatives and private-sector logistics professionals.

The organisers said participants would be exposed to key areas including blue economy fundamentals, port logistics operations, regional trade corridors, customs modernisation strategies and sustainable Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) frameworks.

IMION said the initiative is aimed at equipping decision-makers with practical knowledge required to respond to the changing demands of the maritime industry and maximise opportunities within Nigeria’s vast ocean and coastal resources.

The institute also identified stronger ocean-policy understanding, improved human capital and enhanced cross-sector collaboration as important outcomes expected from the training.

The programme comes amid growing efforts to position Nigeria’s maritime sector as a major driver of economic diversification, trade and investment. Experts have continued to emphasise the need for stronger capacity and coordinated policies to unlock the economic potential of the country’s blue economy.

The three-day programme will provide participants with opportunities for professional interaction and networking across different segments of the maritime value chain.

The training is also expected to contribute to better understanding of regional trade corridors and the role of efficient logistics and port systems in facilitating international commerce.

IMION’s latest initiative builds on its previous capacity-building activities in the blue economy and maritime sector, reflecting increasing attention to executive-level training as a tool for improving leadership and policy implementation in the industry.

The institute has opened its registration portal for interested participants, with physical and virtual participation options available.

IMION said the programme is ultimately intended to strengthen Nigeria’s maritime leadership, promote sustainable economic development and help stakeholders take advantage of emerging opportunities in the global blue economy.
