Brig. Gen. Manu says misinformation and AI have raised the stakes for credible military messaging
The Defence Adviser at the Nigerian High Commission in the United Kingdom, Brigadier General Habib Baba Manu (OON), has praised the Nigerian Army for strengthening its strategic communication and information management capabilities in the face of rising misinformation, disinformation and emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence.
Manu spoke in London when a delegation of officers from the Directorate of Army Public Relations (DAPR), led by Lieutenant Colonel Ishaku Gaji Takwa, paid a courtesy visit to the Defence Section of the Nigerian High Commission.
A Transformed Information Landscape
The Defence Adviser said rapid technological advances have reshaped the contemporary information environment, opening new avenues for effective communication while also speeding up the circulation of false and misleading content.

Against that backdrop, he stressed that timely, credible and professional military communication remains essential to sustaining public confidence and supporting operations in the field.
Ongoing Army Transformation
Manu observed that the Nigerian Army’s ongoing transformation is yielding positive results across its formations, units and departments.
He credited the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, with driving the modernisation, transformation and expansion of the force in line with his Command Philosophy — an agenda he said places particular emphasis on operational effectiveness, technological advancement, personnel development, strategic communication and civil-military relations.
