The newly appointed Commandant of the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC), Air Vice Marshal Nnaemeka Ignatius Ilo, has commenced moves to reposition the Centre with a focus on improved training delivery, upgraded infrastructure and enhanced operational efficiency.
AVM Ilo, who assumed duty on December 15, 2025 as the 42nd Commandant of NAFRC, made this known during a two-day familiarisation tour of the Centre, where he inspected facilities, engaged personnel and assessed areas requiring urgent and long-term attention.
Speaking during the tour, the Commandant said his administration would prioritise the creation of a modern and conducive learning environment for trainees, stressing that retiring military personnel dese rve training that is practical, relevant and capable of preparing them for life after service. He explained that the Centre’s six-month vocational and entrepreneurial training programme must continue to produce skilled and self-reliant ex-servicemen and women who can successfully reintegrate into civil society.
AVM Ilo also announced plans to study the operations of similar resettlement and rehabilitation centres abroad, noting that such exposure would allow NAFRC to benchmark its processes against global best practices. He said lessons learned from international models would help in introducing innovative ideas and raising the overall standard of training at the Centre.

The tour began at the Directorate of Training, where the Commandant was briefed by the Director of Training, Major General I.O. Olatunji, on the structure and responsibilities of the Directorate. Major General Olatunji informed the Commandant that the Centre’s training curriculum was last reviewed in 2022 and is now due for another comprehensive update to keep pace with emerging vocational trends and labour market demands.

He also toured the agricultural wing, ICT centre, medical centre, training battalion and administrative offices.
The Commandant emphasised the need to equip the workshops with modern tools and instructional materials to expose trainees to mechanised processes and current industry practices. He added that visual aids and improved learning facilities would be provided to ensure that participants receive quality and effective instruction.
At the end of the tour, AVM Ilo reassured staff and trainees of his commitment to improving infrastructure, strengthening training delivery and promoting staff welfare. He noted that all observations and recommendations from the familiarisation exercise would be translated into concrete action plans aimed at transforming NAFRC into a leading centre for resettlement and vocational training in the armed forces.
