Abuja, Nigeria – In a solemn ceremony recently the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, eulogised an officer of the force who died trying to rescue crew of a sinking vessel

Admiral Ogalla visited the home of  Lieutenant Commander Gideon Yashim Gwaza on Thursday, August 22, 2024 to sympathise with the family of the officer  who tragically lost his life while leading a rescue mission on July 30, 2024.

The officer successfully saved 59 people from drowning aboard the MV AMBIKA 4 vessel, but died in the process

The Naval Chief expressed his deepest condolences to the family, commending Lieutenant Commander Gwaza’s bravery and dedication. He assured the widow and children that the Nigerian Navy would not forget his sacrifice and would continue to support them.

The visit was attended by several senior naval officers, including the Chief of Administration, Rear Admiral Kennedy Ezete, the Director Veteran Affairs, Rear Admiral MY Dahiru, and the Commander Naval Unit, Commodore ST Lengaya.
