The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has urged Nigerian Army personnel to make the necessary sacrifices to maintain peace and security across the country.

Oluyede made the call on Thursday while addressing troops of the 22 Armoured Brigade, the Nigerian Army Institute of Science Education and Technology (NAISET), and the Nigerian Army College of Education during a visit to Ilorin, Kwara State.

He emphasised that national development is impossible without peace and security, charging the troops to eliminate threats and prevent criminal elements from gaining ground in Kwara and neighbouring states.

The COAS also assured the soldiers of his administration’s commitment to improving their welfare and operational capacity. He highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance barracks infrastructure, upgrade schools for soldiers’ children, strengthen medical services for their families, and provide necessary kits and platforms to enable them to discharge their duties effectively.

Oluyede disclosed that the recent upward review of the troops’ Ration Cash Allowance was aimed at motivating them to continue their sacrifices in service to the nation.

“Nigerians are looking up to you to keep the nation safe, secure, and united,” he said, pledging his full support to ensure their success in assigned operations.

Earlier, the Commander of 22 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, the Commandant of NAISET, Brigadier General Damian Dieke, and the Provost of the Nigerian Army College of Education, Brigadier General Chidi Echebiwe, briefed the Army Chief on the activities and challenges facing their respective formations.
