ZARIA, Kaduna State – The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Saturday declared that the Nigerian Army’s newest batch of soldiers is fully prepared to join the fight against terrorism, banditry and other forms of criminality across the country, urging them to carry out their duties with discipline, professionalism and respect for human rights.
Speaking during the Passing Out Parade of the 90 Regular Recruit Intake at the Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria, the Army Chief said the newly graduated soldiers have undergone intensive military training designed to prepare them for the complex security challenges confronting the nation.
He said the recruits received comprehensive instruction in Counter-Terrorism and Counter-Insurgency operations, equipping them with the skills and resilience required to support ongoing military campaigns aimed at restoring peace and security nationwide.
Lieutenant General Shaibu stressed that while the Nigerian Army remains committed to eliminating terrorist groups and other criminal elements, its personnel must always operate within the provisions of the Rules of Engagement and the Law of Armed Conflict.

According to him, professionalism and respect for human rights remain fundamental principles guiding military operations, adding that the conduct of soldiers on the battlefield must reflect the values and traditions of the Nigerian Army.
The COAS commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for his sustained support in enhancing the operational capabilities and combat readiness of the Armed Forces through improved training, equipment and welfare initiatives.
He urged the new soldiers to justify the confidence placed in them by the nation through loyalty, discipline, courage and dedication to duty, noting that Nigerians expect them to serve with integrity and patriotism.
Lieutenant General Shaibu also issued a stern warning against the irresponsible use of social media, cautioning that the unauthorised dissemination of military information or unprofessional online conduct could compromise operational security and endanger military personnel.
He advised the recruits to remain security conscious at all times and to avoid actions capable of undermining ongoing military operations or tarnishing the image of the Nigerian Army.
Reaffirming the Army’s determination to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and protect the lives and property of citizens, the COAS expressed confidence that the newly inducted soldiers would make significant contributions to ongoing offensives against terrorists, insurgents, bandits and other criminal groups.
The Passing Out Parade marked the successful completion of the recruits’ basic military training and officially inducted them into active service, where they are expected to reinforce ongoing operations in various theatres across the country.
