President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security in a move aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s internal security architecture.
The appointment was announced in a statement from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and conveyed through a circular signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and issued by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Ibrahim Kana.
According to the statement, the appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to improving internal security coordination, enhancing intelligence-driven operations, and promoting stronger inter-agency collaboration in addressing emerging security threats across the country.
The presidency described Fadewa as a highly experienced security strategist with an outstanding record of service and significant contributions to Nigeria’s national security framework.
A retired senior military officer with more than three decades of experience in military and intelligence operations, Fadewa is recognised for his expertise in national security strategy, intelligence coordination, counter-terrorism, and international diplomacy.
Between 2015 and 2021, he served as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser at the Office of the National Security Adviser, where he reportedly led the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre, a multi-agency intelligence platform designed to improve national threat assessment and strategic response coordination.
The centre integrates intelligence operations involving the Defence Intelligence Agency, National Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, Nigeria Police Force, and the Armed Forces.
Following his retirement from military service, Fadewa served as a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja, where he authored a monograph titled Policing and National Security in Nigeria, focusing on strategies for strengthening civil-security cooperation.
President Tinubu expressed confidence in Fadewa’s ability to support the administration’s security agenda, noting that the appointment would enhance efforts toward achieving a safer and more secure Nigeria through improved intelligence integration and proactive security management.
The President also tasked the retired general with deploying his experience and strategic expertise in advancing national security objectives and supporting the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
