The Force Commander, Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), Major General Moses Gara, has reiterated the commitment of the Task Force to sustaining peace and stability across Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba States.
Major General Gara made this known on Thursday, 16 October 2025, while featuring as a special guest on a live radio programme, “Issues of the Moment,” on Radio Benue Broadcasting Service, Makurdi. The appearance was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen civil-military relations and enhance public understanding of the operations and achievements of the Joint Task Force within its area of responsibility.
During the interactive session, the Force Commander highlighted the operation’s successes in restoring peace to several flashpoint areas, including Gwer West, Guma, and Agatu. He noted that the sustained military presence and proactive interventions had enabled displaced persons to return to their ancestral homes and resume normal socio-economic activities, particularly farming.
He appealed to residents to continue supporting troops by providing accurate, timely, and credible information to aid the fight against banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of criminality, stressing that intelligence sharing remains vital to operational success.
Major General Gara also emphasized the importance of dialogue, mediation, and continuous engagement with community leaders, youth groups, and other stakeholders as non-kinetic strategies to consolidate the peace achieved through military operations.
Listeners who phoned into the live programme commended the Force Commander and his troops for their professionalism, dedication, and visible impact in restoring peace and security to the region.
In his remarks, the Director General of Radio Benue Broadcasting Service, Mr. Terseer Mnzuulga, expressed appreciation to Major General Gara for honouring the invitation at short notice. He lauded the Force Commander’s humility, public engagement efforts, and commitment to national service, wishing him continued success in his leadership of Operation WHIRL STROKE.
