Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Femi Gbadebo, a retired Nigerian Air Force pilot has taken to his Facebook page to narrate how he survived low level ejection flying Nigeria’s fighter aircraft, the MiG 21.
According to him, the incident occurred on the July 4, 1980 when he was still on course of routine training flight on MiG-21 Fighter Jet Aircraft.
For him this has made July 4 more memorable to him.
His words: “Ask many people to recall a special day in their lives and, without hesitation, they will mention a specific date, but for a few of us, there are many days when we have had a close shave with death and one of those days was the 4th of July 1980, when in the course of routine training flight in a MIG-21 Fighter Jet Aircraft, I survived a low-level ejection a few Kilometers from Kano International Airport, Nigeria.
“So once again, before the day runs out and as Americans all over the world celebrate their 246th Independence Anniversary and numerous others are celebrating birthdays/anniversaries, permit me through this platform, to offer my humble appreciation to the Almighty for seeing me safely through the events of that fateful day.”
