The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced significant progress in its internal security operations, revealing that troops neutralized 148 terrorists, arrested 256 suspects, and rescued 291 hostages within a week.
Speaking on Saturday, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, provided an update on the military’s efforts to combat terrorism and protect national security.
Buba disclosed that two suspected ammunition couriers, identified as Danweri and Abubakar Hamza, were apprehended in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State. In addition, troops recovered 146 assorted weapons, 2,599 rounds of ammunition, and various items, including three vehicles, 36 motorcycles, 40 mobile phones, and ₦1.8 million in cash.
The seized weapons included two PKT guns, 72 AK-47 rifles, 33 fabricated rifles, and 28 dane guns. Ammunition recovered comprised 1,596 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 636 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammo, and 98 live cartridges, among others.
In the Niger Delta region, troops intensified efforts against illegal oil activities, destroying 66 illegal refining sites, 68 crude oil cooking ovens, and 41 boats. Recovered items included 657,470 liters of stolen crude oil, 127,870 liters of illegally refined diesel, and 5,000 liters of kerosene.
Other items seized in the Niger Delta operation include four speedboats, 150 drums, a drone, five vehicles, and two motorcycles.
“These efforts underscore the military’s commitment to safeguarding the nation and addressing the threats posed by terrorism and illegal oil activities,” Buba said.
The military has reiterated its resolve to sustain the momentum in its operations, assuring Nigerians of continued efforts to restore peace and stability across the country.
