Escravos, Delta State – The Commanding Officer of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Escravos, Capt. Ikenna Okoloagu, has called on naval personnel to remain steadfast in combating crude oil theft and other illegal activities within Nigeria’s maritime space.
Capt. Okoloagu made the statement on Monday after leading the FOB’s 4th Quarter Route March in Escravos, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State.
Addressing officers and ratings after the exercise, he reiterated the commitment of the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Adm. Emmanuel Ogalla, to the welfare of naval personnel. Okoloagu urged them to maintain discipline and integrity in their duties, stressing the Nigerian Navy’s zero-tolerance policy for indiscipline and corruption.
Highlighting the significance of the route march, which involved a 10-kilometre brisk walk, Okoloagu stated that the exercise was designed to enhance the physical fitness and mental well-being of naval personnel.
“The essence of this exercise is to ensure that officers and ratings remain physically fit to carry out the tasks assigned to them. It also promotes comradeship among personnel and reassures the populace that their Navy is prepared and fit for duty,” he said.
The commanding officer, who led senior and junior officers in the exercise, expressed satisfaction with the turnout and performance of participants during the two-and-a-half-hour event.
“The exercise underscores our commitment to operational readiness and teamwork as we continue to secure the nation’s maritime environment,” he added.
The route march was part of ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Navy to maintain high standards of physical preparedness among its personnel while strengthening their resolve to tackle maritime crimes.
