The Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base (FOB), Ibaka, Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom, has inaugurated a borehole with a 6,000-litre capacity to provide clean water to its host community.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony on Friday, the Commanding Officer of FOB Ibaka, Capt. Uche Aneke, said the water project was part of the Navy’s non-kinetic exercise under Operation Delta Sanity III, aimed at improving civil-military relations through community service.

Aneke explained that the initiative was driven by the need for clean water in the community and reflected the Navy’s commitment to public health and sanitation. He urged residents to make the most of the newly inaugurated facility and emphasized the importance of maintaining good hygiene practices with access to safe water.

“The Nigerian Navy, under the leadership of Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, is dedicated to improving the well-being of its host communities. This project is just one of many initiatives we intend to sustain,” Aneke said.

He also assured residents of the Navy’s continued vigilance in securing the area, warning that the base would maintain its surveillance to curb illegal activities along Nigeria’s coastal areas.

In his remarks, the Transition Committee Chairman of Mbo Local Government Area, Mr. Sunday Etim, represented by the Supervisor for Information and Communication, Mr. Ukoh Udombo, expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Navy for the provision of clean water. He urged the community to safeguard the project for the benefit of future generations.

“I want to thank the Nigerian Navy for this vital resource. The community is truly grateful for the access to safe and reliable water,” Etim said.

The borehole project is part of the Navy’s broader effort to strengthen its relationship with local communities while ensuring safety and security along Nigeria’s waterways.
