Nigeria troops stationed in Cotonou, Benin Republic hve been hosted a Christmas luncheon by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu under Operation ATILEYIN ALAAFIA. which was primarily to restore democracy in that country

The troops were deployed to Benin Republic following a  coup attempt and have since been operating jointly with the Beninese Army to ensure peace, stability and the restoration of normalcy in the country.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Farouk Mijinyawa, who represented the COAS through Brigadier General Ibrahim Bunu Sheriff, conveyed the goodwill message of the Army Chief to the troops.

In his address, Brigadier General Sheriff described Christmas as a season of reflection, renewal of faith and gratitude, while commending the officers and soldiers for their resilience, professionalism and unwavering commitment to duty.

He particularly praised the sacrifices of personnel deployed on Operation ATILEYIN ALAAFIA, noting that many were unable to celebrate the festive season with their families due to operational demands. He assured the troops of the Nigerian Army’s continued commitment to their welfare, morale and operational effectiveness.

The event featured the serving of meals to the troops by the representative of the GOC, interactive engagements and a group photograph, aimed at boosting morale and reinforcing camaraderie among the personnel.

The luncheon was attended by Defence Attaché staff of the Nigerian Embassy in Cotonou as well as officers of the Beninese Army, underscoring the strong bilateral and defence cooperation between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin.
