Troops Neutralise Six Terrorists, Rescue Kidnapped Minor in Zamfara Offensive

Troops of the 8 Division Garrison Strike Force, operating under Operation FANSAN YAMMA Sector 2, have recorded significant successes in an ongoing offensive against terrorists and bandits in the Sububu Forests of Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The operation, aimed at dismantling terrorist enclaves and restoring peace to the area, led to the neutralisation of six terrorists, the recovery of arms and ammunition, the destruction of terrorist infrastructure, and the rescue of a kidnapped underage victim.

The offensive began with a targeted engagement at Indulumu village, where troops encountered terrorists and neutralised two of them during a firefight. Following the encounter, one AK-47 rifle was recovered, further degrading the operational capability of the group.

Exploiting their initial success, the Strike Force advanced to Ruduno village, where they met additional resistance. In the ensuing engagement, four more terrorists were neutralised, effectively disrupting a key element of the terrorist network operating within the forest axis.

Items recovered during the operation included another AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with 28 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and two motorcycles used by the terrorists for mobility and logistics. The motorcycles were destroyed at the scene to prevent further use.

Beyond the kinetic successes, the operation also recorded a notable humanitarian outcome. As troops pushed deeper into the forest, they rescued a kidnapped underage victim, identified as Halira Ibrahim, bringing an end to her captivity. The rescue has provided relief and renewed hope to the affected community, underscoring the commitment of the troops to protecting vulnerable civilians and combating kidnapping.

The offensive further saw the destruction of multiple terrorist camps and life-support structures in Magaji, Galakaje, Filinga and Kukatara. The destruction of these camps has significantly disrupted the terrorists’ ability to sustain their activities by denying them safe havens and logistical support.

Military authorities said the operation forms part of sustained efforts to degrade terrorist and bandit groups operating in Zamfara State and adjoining areas, with a view to restoring lasting peace and security to affected communities.

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, they added, remain resolute in maintaining pressure on criminal elements until all threats within the area of responsibility are neutralised.
