SOKOTO, Sept. 6, 2026 (NAN) — Troops of the COAS Special Intervention Battalion 7, Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled a terrorist attack and recovered high-calibre weapons, ammunition and motorcycles in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Nigerian Army, Lt.-Col. Olaniyi Osoba, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Sokoto.
Osoba said the operation was conducted on Saturday as troops advanced through identified terrorist threat enclaves, including Manu, Alkasim and Kandam villages, as well as the Magarya Forest axis.
According to him, troops encountered the terrorists within the Magarya Forest enclave and engaged them with superior firepower, forcing the fighters to abandon their positions and flee into the forest.
“Upon making contact with the terrorists within the Magarya forest enclave, troops engaged the terrorist elements with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their positions and flee into the deep forest,” he said.
He added that troops subsequently conducted follow-up operations and a thorough search of the area, leading to the recovery of significant arms, ammunition and mobility assets.
Among the items recovered were a PKT machine gun, AK-47 rifles, a large quantity of 7.62 x 54mm belted ammunition, motorcycles and assorted logistical and miscellaneous items.
Osoba said the successful operation had further disrupted the activities of the terrorists in the area and denied them access to weapons and mobility assets.
He assured that troops would sustain their strong operational posture and continue to dominate the general area to ensure the security of surrounding communities.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts by troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to degrade terrorist activities and strengthen security across affected communities in the North-West.
