The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has intensified efforts to strengthen strategic leadership and decision-making among its personnel as part of measures to improve operational effectiveness in an increasingly complex security environment.
The initiative was highlighted during a strategic management training programme conducted for NAF personnel by the Institute of Strategic Management of Nigeria (ISMN) at the NAF Headquarters.
Representing the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, the Chief of Policy and Plans, Air Vice Marshal Abdullahi, said the programme was consistent with the leadership’s emphasis on standardised training and mission-focused capability development.
He said developing sophisticated military platforms and other capabilities would only translate into operational success when supported by effective leadership and sound strategic decision-making.
According to him, the training was therefore aimed at equipping personnel with the knowledge and skills required to make informed decisions, improve institutional performance and effectively manage the demands associated with contemporary military operations.
The NAF leadership, he said, remained committed to building a force capable of responding effectively to emerging security challenges through continuous professional development and improved leadership capacity.
The training comes against the backdrop of an increasingly complex security environment requiring military commanders and personnel to make decisions across multiple operational and strategic dimensions.
The NAF said the programme provided participants with an opportunity to broaden their understanding of strategic management and apply the principles to military planning, leadership and mission execution.
The Institute of Strategic Management of Nigeria commended the NAF for its professionalism and commitment to developing the capacity of its personnel.
The institute urged the participants to translate the knowledge acquired during the programme into practical improvements in decision-making, institutional performance and operational delivery.
It stressed that the effectiveness of strategic management ultimately depended on how knowledge was applied to real-world organisational and operational challenges.
The training also underscored the importance of continuous learning within the military, particularly as modern security operations increasingly demand adaptability, coordinated decision-making and effective management of available resources.
For the NAF, the programme forms part of its broader approach to professional military development, with leadership training expected to complement investments in platforms, personnel and other operational capabilities.
The service said strengthening leadership capacity would remain critical to ensuring that its personnel are better prepared to translate available capabilities into effective mission outcomes in support of national security.
