The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has introduced a key welfare initiative aimed at supporting personnel and their families. On Monday, October 7, 2024, the NAF presented cheques to the first recipients of the Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy (GPAIP), a scheme established in January 2024.

The GPAIP offers compensation for bodily injuries, disabilities, death, medical expenses, and salary replacement for the next of kin of deceased officers.

Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, who presided over the ceremony, highlighted the importance of recognizing the sacrifices of NAF personnel. He stated that the GPAIP would provide crucial financial relief to families of fallen personnel, reinforcing the NAF’s commitment to the welfare of both serving and deceased officers.

In a separate recognition, Air Marshal Abubakar celebrated Flying Officer David Oluwagbemiga Sangokoya for becoming the first African cadet to win the prestigious International Sword of Honour at the Royal Air Force College Cranwell, United Kingdom. The CAS expressed gratitude to the UK government for its training support and acknowledged the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) for preparing Sangokoya for international success.

Air Marshal Abubakar also reaffirmed the NAF’s loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, praising his administration’s dedication to the welfare and professional development of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

The introduction of the GPAIP, coupled with Sangokoya’s award, underscores the NAF’s commitment to honoring excellence and professionalism, both at home and on the global stage.
