The Acting National President of National Council for Women Society (NCWS) has advocated for enhanced representation of women in the Nigerian Navy (NN).
Mrs Etuk also emphasized the importance of equal opportunities and the need for policies that support women in defence roles.
She spoke during a courtesy visit to the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla who was represented by the Chief of Naval Transformation (CNTRANS), Rear Admiral MG Oamen at the Naval Headquarters Abuja.
In his response, the CNTRANS reiterated the NN’s commitment to promoting gender equality. He highlighted the recent launch of the NN’s policy on Gender Harassment and Sexual Abuse by the CNS, which underscores the NN’s dedication to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all personnel. Furthermore, he welcomed collaborating with the NCWS and proposed that the Council extend its programs to support female personnel in the NN.
This visit underscored the importance of partnerships in advancing gender equity within the NN, marking a crucial step towards integrating gender-sensitive policies and initiatives.
