Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred a posthumous  national award of Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) on the late Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja.

The announcement was made during the burial ceremony of the late Army Chief, which held at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja. The event was attended by top government officials, military personnel, and dignitaries who gathered to pay their final respects.

Lt.-Gen. Lagbaja passed away on November 5, 2024, at the age of 56. He had been appointed as Chief of Army Staff by President Tinubu in June 2023 and was recognized for his commitment to enhancing military professionalism and addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.

In honor of his service and dedication, President Tinubu directed that national flags be flown at half-mast for seven days. The CFR award underscores Lagbaja’s significant contributions to Nigeria’s security and his leadership within the Nigerian Army.

The burial ceremony highlighted the nation’s gratitude and respect for Lt.-Gen. Lagbaja’s exceptional service, marking a solemn moment of national reflection.
