COPENHAGEN, June 17, 2025 — The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, on Monday, June 16, commenced a three-day working visit to Denmark at the invitation of the Danish Navy, as part of efforts to deepen bilateral naval cooperation.
The first day of the visit featured a symbolic boat trip on Danish waters alongside the Admiral of the Danish Navy, Rear Admiral Søren Kjeldsen. The outing marked the start of a series of engagements aimed at fostering stronger maritime collaboration between both countries.
Vice Admiral Ogalla was accompanied on the trip by the acting Nigerian Ambassador to Sweden (with concurrent accreditation to the Nordic countries), Dr. Elias-Fatile, fdc; the Navy Secretary, Rear Admiral Patrick Nwatu; and Nigeria’s Defence Adviser to the United Kingdom, Brigadier General Manu.
The CNS also held strategic meetings on Monday with key Danish maritime stakeholders. These included a session with the Chief Executive Officer of Blue Denmark, a consortium of maritime companies, and a policy discussion with the Centre for Security and Operations at Denmark’s Ministry of Defence.
The working visit is expected to feature further high-level deliberations on shared maritime security concerns, technological collaboration, and enhanced training opportunities for naval personnel.
Vice Admiral Ogalla’s visit reflects Nigeria’s growing commitment to international maritime partnerships as part of broader efforts to secure the Gulf of Guinea and protect vital shipping lanes.
